SarahGraaf

2001 reigning Humboldt County Fair Queen

Sarah Graaf, 2001 Humboldt County Fair Queen, was presented a beautiful bouquet of red roses.

Sarah Graaf, the 2001 reining Humboldt County Fair Queen, has a lot in common with her older sister, Christine. They both were chosen local fair queen and are entering the teaching profession.

Sarah’s advice to fair queen contestants is to have fun.

"The main thing is to go and have fun. If you enter the competition expecting to win, it will ruin the fun, Graaf said.

She met a lot of people from Humboldt County, whom she did not know before entering the local fair queen contest.

"The contest was a good learning experience. You learned how to present yourself in front of people. There was a lot of preparation during the contest, which is work, but enjoyable. You gain so much experience. Some may think the fair queen contest isn’t a big deal, but it is a very big deal, a big honor just to be competing. A couple of my best friends and I entered just for fun. One of them, Jill Newton, was chosen Miss Congeniality" Sarah said.

"There’s the fair queen"

She especially enjoys little children. Thus, it was very special after the fair when she would hear a little child say, "Mom, there’s the fair queen," while she was attending a function or working at Hy-Vee.

Sarah’s sister, Christine, recently graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. This fall she will be teaching junior high mathematics in a private school at Cedar Falls.

Sarah also has a brother, Matthew, who will be a sophomore at TRV this fall. Matthew is a member of the Livermore Bulldogs 4-H Club and will be showing pigs at the Humboldt County Fair.

Sarah is also a former member of the Lutheran Youth for Christ, D.A.R.E., Talent and gifted (TAG), and the National Honor Society. She is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Livermore.

"I am looking forward to the fair. There won’t be any work, just fun crowning the new Humboldt County Fair Queen," Graaf said.
